Oil giant Shell has deployed a satellite-based asset management system from Globalstar in the Netherlands to manage its movable assets on land and at sea, providing a ‘track and trace’ service to keep track of location and assist in managing certification.
Following successful trials on the Iceni Conquest, UK-based AST Marine Sciences Ltd (MSL) has been awarded a contract to install its iRAMS remote vessel management package and AST-Planned Maintenance System software on board the Iceni Marine Services’ fleet of vessels.

DNV GL reports that it has recently completed its first production surveys using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or drone, with 14 tanks on the MV Apollo, a chemical tanker owned by Carl Büttner Shipmanagement in Bremerhaven, Germany, inspected over a period of two and a half days by two DNV GL surveyors.
