SailPlan is building an intelligent navigation platform for ships that will make navigation dramatically safer and more efficient in a world with an ever-growing demand for cargo.

The Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) has approved a set of technical solutions to enable remote and automatic navigation (a-Nav) on ships under the RS regulation, most of which are registered under the Russian flag.

Rolls-Royce has acquired Servowatch Systems, a UK-based international supplier of integrated marine automation solutions for navies, commercial vessels and large yachts. Representatives of Rolls-Royce's Power Systems business unit and the company’s previous owner, the Indian engineering, procurement and construction projects, manufacturing, defence and services group Larsen & Toubro, signed the contracts on 2 December.

NCA launches automated ship reporting service

The Norwegian Coastal Administration has released the first iteration of an automated ship reporting service, which is part of KONGSBERG’s SESAME Solution II e-navigation project.

Cavotec has been chosen to supply automated e-charging systems for the world’s first fleet of zero-emission, autonomous battery powered ships in Norway. The company has also been chosen to supply automated vacuum mooring systems for ports in Australia and New Zealand.

Australian freight forwarder and global logistics business, Seaway has selected the London based logistics software solution Shipamax to automate data capture for its Bill of Lading and AP Invoice document types.  

Despite the continued impact of COVID-19 across global supply chains, logistics companies are continuing to invest in back-office automation as freight forwarders and shipbrokers prepare for the new normal in a post-pandemic world.

StratumFive has incorporated Danelec Marine’s ship-2-shore data automation solution, DanelecConnect, into its Podium collaborative workspace as an approved third-party data source.

A project to demonstrate how autonomous ships and automation in ports can make waterborne transport more flexible and reduce environmental impact has received EUR 7.5 million from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program.
