CIRM publishes ECDIS test procedures

Comité International Radio-Maritime (CIRM), the association of marine electronics companies, has published its Guideline on Performance Test Procedure for ECDIS, outlining tests to be carried out on a ship’s ECDIS installation to determine if it meets the operational requirements defined by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Seafarer S-Mode sentiments sought

The Nautical Institute (NI) has begun a consultation process to help assess the latest proposals for standardised navigation equipment, under which it intends to seek the views of seafarers on the introduction of an ‘S-Mode’ on critical navigation systems.

BIMCO and the international association for the marine electronics industry, CIRM (Comité International Radio-Maritime), have sent a proposal for an industry-wide standard for software maintenance to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), with the aim of making ships safer, preventing cyber security problems and saving on costs.
