Norddeutsche Reederei is to outfit its fleet of 50 vessels with the Navarino Infinity Cube, which will be used to manage IT networks and communications on board the company’s ships.

The 2018 Crew Connectivity survey of 6,000 serving crewmembers by Futurenautics, sponsored by KVH and Intelsat, has found that the application of technology in operations is growing in perceived importance, and that access to the internet at sea “strongly influences” the decisions of some 92 per cent of seafarers about where to work.

Viber added as seafarer assistance option

The free, confidential helpline for seafarers provided by the International Seafarers’ Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN) can now be accessed using the instant messaging app Viber, expanding the range of contact options for international crews in need of support.
