PressReader becomes Inmarsat CAP

Inmarsat has announced a partnership with PressReader to bring its newspaper and magazine service to vessels at sea over the Inmarsat-4 network, the satellite infrastructure which powers the FleetBroadband service.

Maritime trade union Nautilus International has launched a survey on crew connectivity, which it says will be used to help seafarers shape the way shipping companies use technology on board vessels.

SMSGlobal reports that it will provide daily coverage of the UEFA Euro 2016 football championships and the 2016 Rio Olympics free of charge to customers of its CrewCommCenter satellite communications software.

Crew news system launched by Marpoint

Marpoint has added a new crew welfare system with the launch of Evo News, a customised RSS package that delivers compressed news articles to vessels at sea.

The Sailors’ Society, a seafarer support charity operating internationally, has launched a new ‘Wellness at Sea’ app which aims to improve on board health and wellbeing at sea by putting seafarers’ wellness in their own hands.

Marlink Universal Card updated

Marlink has introduced its new Universal Card Go, a multi-band prepaid card for crew internet access and voice calling that can be used across all Marlink VSAT and MSS services, including the recently introduced 1GB plans offered with separate prepaid crew access.

GT Maritime has announced that it is set to phase out its GTMail software, with an End of Life programme underway that will see users migrated to the company’s latest GTMailPlus system, built from the ground up using modern development languages to improve optimisation and enhance the remote configuration features available shore side.

Oceanlink expands crew news service

UK-based Oceanlink Communications reports that it has expanded its daily e-mail news service for seafarers, launching several new editions to add to its portfolio of regional news bulletins.

Marlink reports that it has completed the deployment of VSAT services for Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) aboard the largest containership ever built, with MSC Zoe joining 130 other MSC vessels using Marlink VSAT services.

Social network for seafarers Crewtoo has published the results of its third Crewtoo Seafarers Happiness Index report, indicating a growing disparity in internet access at sea.
