Inmarsat joins satellite positioning project

Inmarsat has signed an agreement with Geoscience Australia, an agency of the Commonwealth of Australia, to support a collaborative research project aimed at enhancing positioning accuracy and integrity by augmenting signals from multiple Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) over the Australian continent.

Users of Fugro’s G4 satellite correction service will be able to benefit from extended Galileo functionality following the launch of Europe’s satellite navigation system’s ‘initial services’ capability.

Fugro has added to its range of satellite positioning technology with Oceanstar, an onboard decision support system for commercial vessels offering high performance navigation and manoeuvring support.

Kongsberg Maritime has introduced a new positioning system that works with all available Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and correction services, with DPS 432 integrating signals from GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileo, and regional correction signals including SBAS (e.g. WAAS, EGNOS, MSAS, GAGAN), in addition to the new G4 services from Fugro.

USCG issues Safety Alert on GPS outages

The US Coast Guard (USCG) has issued a Safety Alert reminding vessel operators of the potential threat of GPS jamming or interference, and urged the industry to be aware of the contingency measures that should be taken on board in the case of an outage.

The Multi-Function Universe is expanding

Cobham SATCOM has launched two new SAILOR satellite navigation receivers, with both the SAILOR 656X GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) and new SAILOR 657X DGNSS (Differential Global Navigation Satellite System) black-box products designed to be part of the company’s ‘Multi-Function Universe’ eco-system.

Positioning technology company Septentrio has launched a new dedicated device for the maritime market called AsteRx-U Marine, featuring a range of positioning techniques and algorithms as well as interference mitigation technology to automatically counteract various kinds of ambient intentional and unintentional RF interference.

Amsterdam-based DeepOcean has selected Fugro to provide precise satellite positioning services for its entire offshore engineering fleet.
