Globalstar agrees $1.65 billion merger deal

US-based low Earth orbit satellite operator Globalstar has announced that it has signed a merger agreement with Thermo Acquisitions under which the company will be merged with FiberLight, a provider of land-based fibre communications infrastructure.

Globalstar has launched a new M2M/IoT satellite device, the SmartOne Solar, which can be used to provide remote monitoring and tracking over the Globalstar satellite network for movable assets like containers, powered by solar-rechargeable batteries.

Globalstar launches IoT module

Globalstar is launching a new STINGR system, integrating the company’s STX3 simplex satellite transmitter with a GPS receiver and a dual band antenna, to create a unit for use in Internet of Things (IoT)-based solutions for remote sensing, tracking and monitoring of assets like ships and containers.

Oil giant Shell has deployed a satellite-based asset management system from Globalstar in the Netherlands to manage its movable assets on land and at sea, providing a ‘track and trace’ service to keep track of location and assist in managing certification.

Globalstar tech for new asset-tracking system

Globalstar has announced an agreement with Identec Solutions which will see Globalstar’s STX3 chipset integrated into a new asset-tracking solution, which can be used to track items like containers anywhere in the world.

Globalstar has announced the launch of the SmartOne C, its latest product designed to monitor and manage fixed and portable assets, such as shipping containers, via the Internet of Things (IoT).

Globalstar Sat-Fi now available in EMEA

Globalstar has announced the availability of its Sat-Fi system in EMEA, which allows the user to connect their existing smartphones and existing phone numbers to send and receive communications over Globalstar’s satellite network.

Globalstar has launched a new simplex satellite global transmitter, featuring what it claims to be "the lowest power-consuming technology" on the market, which can be integrated into a variety of tracking or monitoring devices for ships or containers.

Globalstar launches Sat-Fi

Globalstar, which operates a constellation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) L-band satellites, has launched Sat-Fi, a hotspot system which can provide satellite connectivity to smartphones, tablets or laptops via Wi-Fi.
