SpeedNet to enhance web browsing at sea

Satellite communications company EMC has announced the launch of SpeedNet, a new system aimed at combatting latency in internet browsing at sea.

Panasonic Avionics Corporation has signed a multi-year contract with Telesat for HTS Ku-band satellite capacity on maritime routes over Europe, the Mediterranean, Middle East and the North Sea, extending an existing agreement between the companies.

Epic era begins

Intelsat 29e, the first of Intelsat’s EpicNG series of high throughput satellites, has launched successfully from French Guiana aboard an Ariane 5 vehicle and signal acquisition has been confirmed, the company has announced.

First Epic launch date announced

Intelsat has announced that Intelsat 29e, the first of the Intelsat EpicNG series of high throughput satellites, is scheduled to launch on January 27, 2016.

Intelsat and Japan’s SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation have signed an agreement to form a joint venture that will launch a new satellite with C-band and high throughput Ku-band capacity to meet connectivity demands in the Asia-Pacific region.

Intelsat has introduced IntelsatOne Flex, a managed mobility service that aims to assist VSAT service providers in maritime and other industries by offering capacity on multiple satellite beams in a single package, and simplifying the combination of current Ku-band services with high-throughput capacity via the EpicNG network.

NSR's latest Maritime Satcom Markets Report predicts significant growth in the sector over the next decade, with both HTS and FSS capacity driving annual revenues as high as $5.2 billion by 2024.
