Inmarsat joins autonomous ship project

Inmarsat has joined the €6.6 million Advanced Autonomous Waterborne Applications Initiative (AAWA) recently launched by Rolls-Royce, a project which aims to produce the specification and preliminary designs for a range of ship solutions in the area of unmanned vessel operation.

After five tumultuous years, Inmarsat can finally celebrate the successful launch of the third satellite in its Global Xpress constellation after the spacecraft was sent safely into orbit today from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan – paving the way for the introduction of global service on the network later this year.

Global Xpress launch date confirmed

Inmarsat has confirmed that the third satellite in the Global Xpress (GX) programme – Inmarsat-5 F3 (I-5 F3) – has been scheduled for launch on Friday 28th August.

Final GX satellite set for launch this month

Inmarsat has announced that it now expects its delayed I-5 F3 satellite, the final satellite in the Global Xpress network, to be launched at the end of this month – paving the way for the global introduction of commercial service by the end of the year.

Inmarsat has signed a €4.2 million Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement with the European Space Agency (ESA) to support the Inmarsat Communications Evolution (ICE) initiative, a project to investigate new technologies for the next generation of space-enabled communications services.

Inmarsat and KVH announce deal

Inmarsat and KVH have announced the signing of what the companies are calling “a reciprocal distribution agreement” covering some of their specific respective services.

Inmarsat has confirmed that it will be flying its Inmarsat-4 F2 (I-4 F2) communications satellite to a new orbital position above the Indian Ocean, creating a fourth full-service L-band region, which will offer improved connectivity capacity for customers in the Middle East and Asia (MEAS).

Inmarsat has been forced to delay the launch of its final Global Xpress (GX) satellite following the failure of the preceding Proton Breeze M launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Saturday 16 May.
