Inmarsat joins IoT standards group

Inmarsat has joined the LoRa Alliance, a group dedicated to developing a global standard for the Internet of Things (IoT), and says it will provide the LoRa ecosystem with satellite connectivity to enable the deployment of solutions.

Inmarsat has agreed a deal with Airbus Defence and Space to build the first two satellites for Inmarsat’s sixth-generation fleet, which will provide the next generation of L-band services after FleetBroadband while also including a Ka-band payload.

Inmarsat has announced a new partnership with EM Solutions to develop the world’s first combined MilSatCom/Global Xpress (GX) maritime satcom terminal.

Inmarsat and Ericsson have signed a strategic maritime agreement will see the two companies jointly develop satellite and application integration packages to connect ships at sea with services in the Cloud and on shore.

EUKOR signs up for Global Xpress service

Inmarsat and Intellian have announced a deal with EUKOR Car Carriers that will provide the Korean shipping company with Ka-band VSAT connectivity over Inmarsat’s new Global Xpress (GX) network.

Maersk Tankers, the owner and operator of one of the world’s largest fleets of product tankers, has chosen to install Inmarsat’s Fleet Media maritime entertainment service on 30 of its vessels as part of a pilot scheme.

RigNet has signed an agreement with Inmarsat to offer Fleet Xpress, the maritime version of the Global Xpress service, to the oil and gas maritime sector.
