ABB opens R&D lab

ABB has expanded its research and development capabilities with the opening of a new laboratory in Helsinki, the first lab integrating all of ABB’s shipping industry systems in one place.

Rock Seven launches new M2M unit

Rock Seven has announced the launch of RockBLOCK Mk2, a self-contained unit with satellite connectivity designed to enable Machine to Machine (M2M) communication and Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

General Electric (GE), the US multinational conglomerate, has unveiled GE Marine, a new organisation dedicated to the maritime market that will offer products and services around power, propulsion and positioning, as well as working on systems that will take advantage of the ‘Internet of Things’.

BlackBerry to target shipping industry

BlackBerry has revealed plans to develop technology for the shipping industry with the launch of its new Internet of Things (IoT) platform, announced at last week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas by CEO John Chen.

Machine-to-Machine (M2M) solutions provider ORBCOMM has announced that it will acquire Canadian firm SkyWave, the largest M2M service provider on Inmarsat’s L-band satellite network, for $130 million.
