Harris Corporation and satellite AIS company exactEarth have formed a strategic alliance to offer new data services for the tracking of maritime vessels.

The Satellite Applications Catapult (SAC) and The Pew Charitable Trusts in the UK have launched near real-time technology that they say will help authorities monitor, detect and respond to illegal fishing activity across the world’s oceans.

Transas Marine Pacific reports that it has secured a contract with the Taiwan Coast Guard Administration for installation and commissioning of the country's National Coastal Surveillance System, in conjunction with local Transas partner Mercuries Data Systems (MDS).

Record orders for exactEarth

exactEarth, a Canadian provider of satellite AIS data services, today announced that it has received C$9.6 million (US$8.8m) of order bookings for the second fiscal quarter of 2014 for its global vessel tracking and monitoring system, surpassing its previous orders record for a single quarter by over 70 per cent.

exactEarth today announced that it has concluded a mutually exclusive agreement with SRT to develop and commercialise technology that will for the first time enable low power AIS transceivers of the types being deployed on small commercial and leisure vessels to be tracked from space.

INTERSCHALT maritime systems reports that Holland America Line is retrofitting its entire fleet of 15 cruise ships with its VDR G4 and its BLUETRACKER software, which automates data flow from vessel to shore.

McMurdo’s Boatracs goes global

McMurdo Group today announced that its fleet management software platform is now available worldwide for partners to integrate into their existing maritime applications and solutions. Previously, the software was only sold in North America under the brand Boatracs, which is now part of the McMurdo Group.

Transas adds Piracy Information Overlay

Transas Marine has announced that it has integrated a Piracy Information Overlay (PIO) into its FleetView Online SSAS-tracking software and its Navi-Planner 4000 voyage planning software.

Globalstar has launched a new simplex satellite global transmitter, featuring what it claims to be "the lowest power-consuming technology" on the market, which can be integrated into a variety of tracking or monitoring devices for ships or containers.

Transas has announced today that it is to integrate MeteoGroup weather data into its FleetView Online SSAS-tracking software.
