SpeedCast has announced its half year 2015 results through to the end of June, reporting 38 per cent growth in its maritime business year-on-year.

Intelsat has announced the successful launch of its Intelsat 34 satellite from French Guiana, aboard an Ariane 5 vehicle on August 20th, which will bolster the company’s Ku-band capacity for the maritime market.

GMS VSAT deal for SpeedCast

SpeedCast has been awarded a multi-year communications contract from Gulf Marine Services (GMS) for the provision of dual-beam Ku-band satellite services to nine GMS barges.

SpeedCast has been awarded a multi-year Ku-band VSAT satellite communications contract by Netherlands-based shipping company, Vroon.

Global satellite broadband start-up OneWeb has announced that it has raised $500 million in funding from a group of international companies, including Intelsat, Coca-Cola and previously announced partner Airbus.

KVH has implemented a global private multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) network connecting all of the teleports and satellite beams in its mini-VSAT Broadband service, which it says will increase security, network reliability and uptime, while also improving quality of service.

Elon Musk’s SpaceX company has taken a significant step towards launching its own global satellite broadband network, having made a formal filing with the US Federal Communications Commission for a licence to begin a test programme starting in 2016.

Polsteam signs up for mini-VSAT

Polish bulk carrier operator Polsteam has agreed a deal to install the mini-VSAT Broadband service from KVH on 60 vessels.

Intelsat has introduced IntelsatOne Flex, a managed mobility service that aims to assist VSAT service providers in maritime and other industries by offering capacity on multiple satellite beams in a single package, and simplifying the combination of current Ku-band services with high-throughput capacity via the EpicNG network.
