NEXT satellites arrive ahead of October launch

Iridium has confirmed that 10 satellites from its Iridium NEXT roll-out have been delivered to Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB) in California, ahead of the third scheduled launch in the company’s next generation satellite programme on October 4.

Inmarsat has announced a deal with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) to act as the launch provider for the first satellite in the Inmarsat-6 fleet (I-6 F1), under construction by Airbus Defence and Space and scheduled for launch in 2020.

Globalstar has launched a new M2M/IoT satellite device, the SmartOne Solar, which can be used to provide remote monitoring and tracking over the Globalstar satellite network for movable assets like containers, powered by solar-rechargeable batteries.

Inmarsat has reported its financial results for the first half of 2017, with maritime revenue for the six months down by 3.9 per cent to $278.4 million compared with the same period last year, as customers move from FleetBroadband on to VSAT services.

Iridium has announced that the third launch for its new NEXT constellation has been scheduled for September 30, 2017, which will bring the total number of Iridium NEXT satellites deployed to 30 if successful.

Second Iridium NEXT launch a success

Iridium has successfully completed the second satellite launch for its next-generation network, Iridium NEXT, with a payload of 10 satellites deployed into low-Earth orbit on June 25, adding to the 10 initial satellites in the constellation already launched in January of this year.
