Thuraya adds dual mode satellite/GSM phone

Thuraya has added to its satellite phone range with the launch of a new dual mode, dual SIM phone, the XT-PRO DUAL.

Inmarsat and mobile operator Vodafone have announced a roaming agreement which will look to integrate technologies from the two companies to enable international satellite and cellular roaming connectivity for the Internet of Things (IoT).

Iridium Pilot passes 2,200 units in 12 months

Iridium has released details on the take-up of its Pilot maritime communications system, revealing that it shipped more than 2,200 units over the 12 months ending June 30, 2016, concluding with one of the best quarters in company history.

Thuraya reports that it has finalised its plans for its next generation constellation, which it says will extend its geographical reach and help the company move into new market sectors with additional services and devices.

Intellian has launched the FB500R, a version of the FleetBroadband 500 that comes with a 19”rack-mount BDU (below deck unit), instead of the current wall mount version.

Fleet One goes Global

Inmarsat has launched Fleet One Global, an extension of its existing Fleet One service designed to offer basic voice and data connectivity to low-end users in the maritime market.

One Net has been appointed as a global partner for Inmarsat’s L-band portfolio in the maritime sector, the companies report.

Research and Markets has published a new report, Maritime Satellite Communication Market by Type, Service, End User and by Region - Global Forecast to 2020, which predicts annual growth of 9 per cent in shipping satcoms to the end of the decade.

Inmarsat has agreed a deal with Airbus Defence and Space to build the first two satellites for Inmarsat’s sixth-generation fleet, which will provide the next generation of L-band services after FleetBroadband while also including a Ka-band payload.

90-ship VSAT deal for Rickmers Group

Rickmers Group is to implement a new VSAT service from Marlink for its fleet of 90+ vessels, including container ships, bulk carriers and heavy lift vessels, the companies have announced.
