MOL tests real-time shore access to VDR data

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), in collaboration with Japan Radio Co (JRC) and JSAT MOBILE Communications, reports that it has successfully tested a new system to share shipboard data contained in the Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) with shore based offices, connecting the ship with shore via Inmarsat Fleet Xpress.

Fujitsu Laboratories reports that it has completed trials of a new ship performance estimation technology system with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and Ube Shipping & Logistics, used to predict voyage parameters such as ship speed and fuel consumption to optimise routing and save on fuel.

MOL to introduce VR training

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has developed a new virtual reality (VR) crew safety training system, using technology created by Japanese company Tsumiki Seisaku integrated into a pair of smart goggles.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) is to expand its use of ClassNK’s CMAXS diagnostic monitoring system to two additional ships operated by the company, to take the total number of vessels installed to six.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has announced that it has signed an agreement with Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (MES) to jointly develop vessel monitoring and support systems which they hope to eventually offer to the wider maritime market.

A new collaborative group including Japanese shipyards and the country’s most prominent shipping lines is set to work together on technologies to support autonomous shipping, sharing costs and expertise as they aim to drive the introduction of self-navigating ships by 2025, according to reports in Japan’s Nikkei business newspaper.

Inmarsat has announced that its partner JSAT MOBILE Communications has signed an agreement with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) to introduce the newly-launched Fleet Xpress service across the majority of its car carrier fleet.
