Royal Caribbean reports that bandwidth speeds exceeding 500 Mbps have been achieved during system tests for the O3b satellite communications solution it is rolling out on two of its cruise ships.

Kongsberg Maritime today reported that Royal Caribbean has installed its new data management system KIMS (Kongsberg Information Management System) on board the Allure of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship.

Harris CapRock Communications has announced that it has completed the installation of satcom systems on board 33 vessels for Royal Caribbean Cruises. The solution combines Ku-band and C-band connectivity.

Second ship signed to O3b service

O3b Networks has signed a second multi-year deal with Royal Caribbean Cruises to provide satellite broadband services aboard one of its cruise ships, Allure of the Seas.

Harris CapRock Communications is to work with O3b Networks on its recently agreed contract to supply Royal Caribbean Cruises' Oasis of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in the world, with its O3b Maritime VSAT service.

The recently announced O3bMaritime VSAT service, set to be launched in 2013 and promising download speeds of 350 Mbps to ships at sea, has signed its first customer, with the agreement of a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract with Royal Caribbean Cruises.

Harris CapRock Communications has signed a five-year agreement with cruise operator Royal Caribbean Cruises to provide communication services onboard its fleet of 34 ships across the Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Club Cruises brands.
