SK Telecom has announced plans to launch what it says is the world’s first pilot LTE-M (LTE for Maritime Wireless Communications) network, as part of a research and development project led by the Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF).

SK Telecom, South Korea’s largest mobile carrier, is being joined by a number of academic institutions to form a consortium dedicated to developing the country’s first underwater communications network.

Korean roaming agreement for cruise ships

Korean telecoms provider SK Telecom has begun offering mobile phone roaming services for passenger ships, according to reports in the Korea Herald.
