Epic era begins

Intelsat 29e, the first of Intelsat’s EpicNG series of high throughput satellites, has launched successfully from French Guiana aboard an Ariane 5 vehicle and signal acquisition has been confirmed, the company has announced.

OneWeb, the satellite company aiming to build a global network of hundreds of satellites providing global internet access, has created a new joint venture with Airbus Defence and Space called OneWeb Satellites.

Inmarsat has agreed a deal with Airbus Defence and Space to build the first two satellites for Inmarsat’s sixth-generation fleet, which will provide the next generation of L-band services after FleetBroadband while also including a Ka-band payload.

First Epic launch date announced

Intelsat has announced that Intelsat 29e, the first of the Intelsat EpicNG series of high throughput satellites, is scheduled to launch on January 27, 2016.
