International PortCDM council established

An international PortCDM Council, inspired by the airport CDM (Collaborative Decision Making) council, is set to be established at the end of March 2017, initiated by the STM (Sea Trafic Management) Validation Project and bringing together a range of governmental and non-governmental maritime organisations.

ECDIS manufacturer Furuno will provide 43 ships with Sea Traffic Management-compatible on board systems, becoming the fourth ECDIS supplier supporting the project along with Transas, Wärtsilä SAM Electronics and Adveto.

The EU-backed Sea Traffic Management (STM) project reports that it has entered its second procurement phase and is currently searching for an additional ECDIS manufacturer to get involved with the initiative to further test interoperability between various systems and providers.

ECDIS suppliers deliver 225 STM systems

Three of the industry’s largest ECDIS suppliers, Transas, Wärtsilä SAM Electronics and Adveto, have supplied the first Sea Traffic Management-compatible onboard equipment, with 225 such systems being made available to the EU-backed project.

The Norwegian Minister of Transport, Ketil Solvik-Olsen, and Merete Eik, CEO of Port of Stavanger, have officially inaugurated the Port as a test bed for the Sea Traffic Management (STM) project, which aims to improve vessel safety through streamlined data exchange between ships.

The MONALISA2.0 project has released a road map of the development required for the maritime industry to move towards a full scale Sea Traffic Management (STM) system, with the publication of its STM e-Master Plan.
