3D training for cargo operations

Kongsberg Digital has launched a new 3D virtual application for its K-Sim Cargo simulator, adding outside deck area training to sit alongside the existing 3D engine room capabilities of the company’s K-Sim Engine simulator.

Simwave and Kongsberg Digital report that they have completed the Site Acceptance Test (SAT) of what they claim is one of the largest maritime simulation packages ever delivered, meaning that the new Simwave Maritime Center of Excellence in Barendrecht, Rotterdam, is now fully operational.

Transas introduces Survival Craft Simulator

Transas has introduced a new Survival Craft Simulator (SCS) to prepare crew for the possible scenarios that can occur during lifeboat drills and to improve safety in an area that is a persistent source of accidents in shipping.

Russian developers have launched a new platform to allow for testing of navigation systems used by unmanned surface vessels in a virtual environment, managed by the MariNet working group from the country’s National Technological Initiative (NTI).

Alphatron upgrades ECDIS training lab

Alphatron Marine has upgraded the ECDIS training facility at its headquarters in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, with new systems for seafarer training.

Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD) has opened a new installation of its W-Xpert Full Mission Simulator (FMS) for virtual reality training of engine room crews at the Marine Power Academy Training Centre of Hudong Heavy Machinery Co. (HHM), in Shanghai, China.

Liverpool John Moores University’s (LJMU) Maritime Centre in the UK has launched a new range of STCW (Standards on Training, Certification and Watchkeeping) simulator training courses, part of the Centre’s expanded professional training programme delivered through the Maritime Knowledge Hub, operated in partnership with Mersey Maritime, the representative body for the maritime sector in the North West of England.

Kongsberg Digital and Simwave have agreed a contract for what Kongsberg says is one of its most extensive maritime simulator deliveries to date, to take place at Simwave’s facilities in the Netherlands.

UK MAIB installs new simulator

BMT Ship & Coastal Dynamics (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group, has announced a new contract with the UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB), which has seen BMT install its REMBRANDT marine navigation and manoeuvring simulator to use in accident reconstructions and provide training to MAIB personnel.

BCG updates virtual GMDSS simulator

Buffalo Computer Graphics (BCG) has upgraded its Virtual Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (VGMDSS) simulation software to add a new Inmarsat-C and Radio Telex terminal simulation.
