ABB partners with Sovcomflot and MSU in Russia

ABB is to work with Sovcomflot and the Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University (MSU) in Russia on the implementation of new simulation systems at the University, following the signing of a research, technological and educational partnership agreement.

Kongsberg Digital, the new Kongsberg software and maritime simulation technology division, has signed contracts with Sweden’s Chalmers University of Technology, Kalmar Maritime Academy and Linnaeus University that include the development of a new LNG (Dual Fuel) Cruise Ferry simulator model for the K-Sim Engine simulator platform.

BMT simulator adds new features

BMT Ship & Coastal Dynamics, part of BMT Group, has updated its marine navigation and manoeuvring simulator REMBRANDT, with version 6 adding separate controls for setting wind, wave and swell wave parameters.

Modal Training, a multimodal logistics training centre in the UK set to open later this year, reports that it has invested £2 million in a simulation setup from Kongsberg Maritime to offer courses for the maritime sector.

Carnival Corporation has opened its new Center for Simulator and Maritime Training (CSMART) in Almere, the Netherlands, a result of almost two years of intensive R&D investment.

Buffalo Computer Graphics (BCG) reports that it has delivered its Virtual Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (VGMDSS) simulator to Patt Manfield & Co. Shipping Company in Hong Kong.

The Delgado Fire and Industrial School in New Orleans in the US has integrated a range of simulation technology from XVR with its Transas simulators, for use in courses at its new 19,000 square foot Maritime and Industrial Training Center.

New simulators for BSM in Cyprus

Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) has newly added a Full Mission Bridge and an Engine Room simulator at its training centre in Limassol, Cyprus, the only centre with the technology on the island, the company says.

Transas reports that it has completed the installation of an integrated ship simulator package at the City of Glasgow College in Scotland, the country's largest college.

Transas has built a simulator model of a proposed new cruise terminal currently under discussion in the Cayman Islands, to be used to inform Cayman authorities on the logistical and environmental implications of constructing the new facility by running simulations of ship traffic to and from Grand Cayman.
