Acheon Akti is preparing to deploy EVI Safety Technology’s AI-enabled safety system across more vessels after a pilot reported an almost 20-fold reduction in bridge near misses. The system uses existing onboard cameras and local video processing to give crews real-time safety alerts while linking vessel observations with shore-based review.
According to EVI’s 30 September press release, Acheon Akti reported an almost 20-fold reduction in bridge near misses during the pilot, alongside at least a threefold improvement in other supervised areas. The total duration of monitored deviations fell by 69%, from 8,839 minutes to 2,730 minutes. The figures apply to the pilot vessel and its monitored operations.
The planned wider deployment was referenced by Acheon Akti CEO Charalambos Manoli in Argonaftis, the company’s corporate magazine. EVI’s technology is expected to be introduced to other vessels alongside Acheon Akti’s KARCO safety training programme.
The system takes a different approach to fleet safety data by using infrastructure already found onboard. EVI uses existing cameras to identify potential risks and alert crew, while video processing takes place locally on the vessel. That allows the system to operate when connectivity is limited and gives shore teams material for incident review and crew learning.
Vladimir Ponomarev, CEO of EVI Safety Technology B.V., said the technology has to fit into the crew’s daily work. “Having worked at sea myself, I know that safety technology has to earn its place in the crew’s daily work. It should help people recognise a developing risk and act while there is still time to prevent an incident.”
The pilot gives Acheon Akti a measured basis for considering wider fleet use, with the reported results linking digital monitoring directly to bridge operations, crew response and safety training.
