New offline ECDIS training at sea

ECDIS manufacturer Martek Marine has teamed up with ECDIS training provider Safebridge to deliver onboard type-specific ECDIS training without the need for internet connectivity.

{mprestriction ids="1,2"}The VTK (vessel training kit) consists of modified laptops that are equipped with virtual machines running Martek’s iECDIS software, providing the trainee with offline access to the Live-Learning and Video-Learning functions.

Once training has been completed, an online sync with Safebridge’s server is required, whereupon test results are uploaded and an e-certificate is then issued to the trainee or sent to a nominated crew manager on shore.

“Training is one of the most important elements of successful and due diligent ECDIS implementation,” said Steve Coulson, business development director at Martek Marine.

“We looked for a training partner that had the experience and quality to deliver our system training and this is what we found with Safebridge and the ECDIS Training Consortium. This new VTK will add value to operators and their crews to ensure that training is effective, value for money and flexible for the ultimate safety of the vessel.”{/mprestriction}
