Medical ship gets nav and comms overhaul

The Vine Trusts’ latest medical ship, MV Forth Hope, is to be outfitted with a new navigation and communications system by Ships Electronic Services (SES) ahead of an upcoming project in the Peruvian Amazon.

{mprestriction ids="1,2"}Built by David Abels in Bristol, UK, the Forth Hope will set sail in July from the Trusts’ base in Leith, Scotland, heading south via the Canary Islands to Iquitos in the Peruvian Amazon, where her onboard medical team will provide primary healthcare to isolated communities in the region.

“We are very proud to be associated with this excellent charity and have been delighted with the response we have received from several of the manufacturers we represent, who have provided products for the Forth Hope,” said SES director Colin Anderson, who will be aboard the vessel during the voyage.

“Suppliers such as Cobham, Furuno, Raytheon Anschutz and Iridium have all provided satellite communications and navigation equipment for us to install. SES engineers will be on board shortly to build the system and fit a number of other items we have donated ourselves.”

“I will join the ship for the voyage from Scotland to Peru to ensure the crew are fully appraised with the equipment, and all is working smoothly for the 7,000 mile trip and her long term deployment in the Peruvian Amazon.”{/mprestriction}
