Norwegian coastal radar deal agreed

Kongsberg Norcontrol reports that it has signed a framework agreement with the Norwegian Coastal Administration for delivery, operation and maintenance of radars for the nation’s maritime traffic service.

{mprestriction ids="1,2"}The agreement has a potential total value of up to NOK 250 million (approximately US$31 million) and a duration of up to eleven years, making it one of the largest framework agreements the Norwegian Coastal Administration has entered into with a single supplier.

“The Ministry of Transport and Communications has assigned us to expand the service area for our maritime traffic service, and this framework agreement is an important step in achieving this. The agreement gives us access to modern radars with good performance,” said Arve Dimmen, director of maritime safety at the Norwegian Coastal Administration.

The Norwegian Coastal Administration currently has 23 radars monitoring traffic in the five service areas of the maritime traffic service.

The framework agreement facilitates the technical extension of these service areas in the near future, including in Western Norway where the service area will be expanded to apply to a region reaching from from Fedje to Kristiansund by 2022.

In addition to maintenance and renewal of current radars, Kongsberg Norcontrol says it will also deliver new radars from this year until 2027 as part of the contract.{/mprestriction}
