Newport has completed the deployment of M2INTELLIGENCE’s GVMS across its fleet, giving shore teams live and recorded visual access to onboard operations. The rollout creates a digital layer for remote monitoring, incident review and ship-shore support, with AI-based fleet analytics planned as the next step.
Newport has completed a fleet-wide rollout of M2INTELLIGENCE’s GVMS solution, giving shore-based teams direct access to live and recorded visual information from onboard operations.
The system allows Newport’s teams to remotely follow critical areas and activities on vessels, review operational events and incidents, and support troubleshooting, inspections, training and collaboration between ship and shore. The company said the technology is now part of day-to-day fleet management rather than being used only when an incident requires investigation.
For ship managers, the practical change is access to visual information without relying solely on reports, telephone calls or information gathered after an event. Newport said the rollout provides real-time visual access, faster support from shore and a consistent monitoring environment across its fleet.
Thomas Asproudis, Co-Founder, Innovation & Business Development at M2INTELLIGENCE, said the way vessels are monitored and managed is changing as visual information becomes more readily available between ship and shore.
“New technologies are fundamentally changing the connection between vessel and shore, making information more immediate, visual and actionable,” Asproudis said.
The rollout also establishes the infrastructure for M2INTELLIGENCE’s M2AI platform. The system combines camera feeds with vessel and operational data to support automated detection, real-time alerts, operational and compliance indicators, fleet trends and benchmarking.
That creates a potential link between remote vessel visibility and fleet-level decision making. Rather than using cameras simply to see what is happening onboard, the next stage is to use the resulting data to identify events that require attention and support earlier decisions by management teams.
M2INTELLIGENCE describes GVMS as its remote visual access platform, while M2AI builds on that infrastructure with AI-powered monitoring, alerts, analytics and fleet benchmarking.
Newport’s deployment shows how visual data can become part of the operational technology stack alongside conventional vessel and fleet data. The commercial impact will depend on how effectively those feeds are connected to existing workflows and used to support decisions across the fleet.
