Princess Cruises has launched a native app in ChatGPT that lets travellers search itineraries, compare ships and check pricing through a conversational interface. The move gives the cruise operator a new digital route into customer discovery, with the app connecting ChatGPT users to Princess’ existing booking ecosystem.

Princess Cruises has launched a native app in ChatGPT, allowing travellers to search more than 330 destinations across 17 ships, compare itineraries and check current pricing and availability through a conversational interface.

The cruise line said it is the first global cruise line to launch a native app in ChatGPT. The service allows users to tag @princesscruises and use natural-language requests to find cruises by destination, date and duration, then refine their choices within the same conversation.

The move gives Princess a new digital channel between cruise discovery and its existing booking ecosystem. Rather than requiring customers to work through separate searches, the app can handle follow-up requests such as comparing itineraries, identifying cruises that visit Glacier Bay National Park or narrowing departures to those from Seattle.

Neena Vicente, Vice President of Digital Commerce and Experience at Princess Cruises, said the company sees generative AI changing how travellers research and plan trips.

“There is a broader shift in travel discovery as consumers increasingly use generative AI not simply to find information, but to help evaluate choices and plan increasingly complex trips,” Vicente said.

The app also brings the cruise line closer to the wider move towards agentic commerce, where digital systems can help users progress from finding information to taking action. Princess said the initial launch is limited to ChatGPT, with plans to expand to other compatible AI platforms subject to availability and technical requirements.

Rosemary DeAragon, Head of Technology & Consumer Industries at OpenAI, said the partnership demonstrates how AI platforms and travel brands can work together.

“We’re building ChatGPT to help people move from discovery to action. Princess Cruises’ app brings that experience into the cruise industry, showing how AI platforms and travel brands can work together to make planning more seamless, useful and conversational,” DeAragon said.

For cruise operators and ship managers, the more important change is where the customer journey begins. Search, itinerary comparison, pricing and trip planning can now take place inside an AI interface, giving cruise brands another digital environment in which their ships, routes and onboard experiences are discovered and evaluated.
