Auerbach’s vessels will benefit from NexusWave's ability to accommodate customer and crew requirements, with unlimited high-speed connectivity from a single, fully managed source.

Auerbach is placing connectivity at the centre of its fleet renewal programme as it brings a new generation of heavy lift vessels into service. By adopting a fully managed, bonded solution, the German shipowner is aligning digital capability with operational performance, compliance and crew expectations.

For shipowners investing in new tonnage, connectivity is no longer treated as an onboard utility but as part of the vessel’s core operating capability. Hamburg based Auerbach is taking that approach as it renews its heavy lift fleet, selecting NexusWave connectivity from Inmarsat Maritime for its newbuild vessels.

The heavy lift and project cargo specialist has launched a fleet renewal programme in response to growing demand for high quality transport services and in anticipation of tightening environmental regulation. Its new ECO multipurpose vessels, under construction at Taizhou Sanfu Shipyard in China, are designed to set higher benchmarks in cargo handling capability and fuel efficiency.

Connectivity is being treated as a supporting pillar of that design philosophy. NexusWave will be installed across the newbuild fleet to ensure that mission critical shipboard systems remain operational at all times, while also meeting rising data demands from customers, crew and regulators.

The fully managed bonded service combines high speed connectivity, global coverage and unlimited data. For ship managers, this is intended to provide a consistent onboard experience comparable to shore based internet, while removing the operational burden of managing multiple service providers.

Jan Boldt, Technical Director at Auerbach, said: “Our ongoing fleet renewal programme reflects a commitment to leading the modernisation of the project cargo sector by building, owning, and operating cutting-edge, eco-friendly multipurpose vessels. Inmarsat’s NexusWave will support the vessels’ efficient operations and regulatory compliance, as well as satisfying customer and crew requirements, with unlimited high-speed connectivity from a single, fully managed source.”

From the service provider perspective, the deployment reflects a broader shift among shipowners towards managed connectivity as a source of commercial advantage.

Jan-Henning Stehr, Sales Manager Europe at Inmarsat Maritime, said: “Modern ship owners and managers across the maritime industry recognise the competitive advantage that can be gained through fully managed bonded connectivity. Auerbach’s new ships will serve growing demand for top quality project cargo assets and NexusWave will provide the seamless, next-generation connectivity that aligns with the company’s ambitions to drive modernisation of the sector.”

As digital reporting requirements expand and vessels become more data intensive, Auerbach’s decision highlights how connectivity choices are increasingly framed around long term fleet performance rather than short term bandwidth needs.
