Marlink has already been providing VSAT services to three Van Oord vessels since June 2013, and says that the performance of the existing service was key to this new deal, including Committed Information Rates (CIR) and short notice temporary bandwidth increases on request.

Van Oord will also be using a number of Marlink Value Added Services as part of the new contract, such as support to run its own VoIP services, allowing the Rotterdam-headquartered vessel operator to integrate voice services onboard its ships with its onshore phone system.

“Marlink VSAT services meet Van Oord's very specific connectivity requirements for all their specialised vessels,” said Ab Argam, sales manager Benelux, Marlink.

“The difference now is that we work together as partners, where any Van Oord challenge is considered as our mutual challenge. We are proud to work strategically with Van Oord on any needs or development related to communication on board.”
