“K” Line and Kawasaki launch Big Data voyage management tool

“K” Line Group and Kawasaki Heavy Industries have announced the launch of the K-IMS integrated vessel operation and performance management system, a ‘Big Data analysis tool used to improve efficiency in ship operations.

{mprestriction ids="1,2"}K-IMS builds on two existing technology systems already in use in the “K” Line fleet. The first of these is SPAS (Ship Performance Analysing System), which works with an electrical AB log (abstract logbook) for vessel performance analysis, while the second is an EP-Monitor (Engine Plant Monitor) that offers remote monitoring of the vessel’s engine plant.

The new system integrates the EP-Monitor with additional sources of operational data, including navigation data, as well as a newly adopted NAVI (Optimum Navigation System) voyage management application.

K-IMS integrates the updated EP-Monitor with NAVI and SPAS to create a single repository for real-time operational data – “K” Line’s version of a Big Data infrastructure.

K-IMS and the related data are contained within a Cloud system on a shore server that allows authorised parties to view the operating condition of the vessels, to analyse performance and make course recommendations based on the data provided as well as supplementary weather information.{/mprestriction}
