Iridium NEXT launch postponed again

The launch of the first satellites in the Iridium NEXT constellation has been delayed once more, following an announcement from launch services provider SpaceX.

{mprestriction ids="1,2"}In December 2016, SpaceX had confirmed a projected launch date of January 8, 2017, for the satellites. However, inclement weather at the launch site in California meant that the mission could not take place as scheduled.

As a result the launch is now expected to take place at Vandenberg Air Force Base on January 14, with a back-up slot on January 15 also being added to the schedule.

This first launch for the NEXT constellation had originally been expected to take place last year, before a September 2016 explosion involving a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket caused the programme to be suspended while an investigation was conducted.{/mprestriction}
