Hamburg-based shipping group Reederei Hamburger Lloyd is to move its fleet of nine container ships and six bulkers to Marlink’s Sealink Plus package, including Ku-band VSAT and unlimited L-band backup.

{mprestriction ids="1,2"}Hamburger Lloyd is a long term customer of Telemar Germany, part of the Marlink Group, and was specifically looking for a communications solution to cost effectively download ECDIS updates, moving from a pay-as-you-go L-band communication service to the pay-monthly VSAT model.

The shipping company has also chosen to install XChange, Marlink’s communication management and application platform, as part of the contract.

While Hamburger Lloyd’s existing L-band systems will be used to provide the back-up connectivity, new 1 metre VSAT antennas and the XChange hardware will be provided as part of the monthly cost, reducing Capex costs for the roll-out.

“We are seeing an increase in German shipping companies choosing Sealink VSAT services in recent months. Sealink VSAT is the ideal solution for companies seeking to leverage digitalisation to improve operations,” said Tore Morten Olsen, president maritime, Marlink.

“Telemar Germany and Marlink are ideally positioned to serve German ship owners with sophisticated satcom and bridge electronics services.”{/mprestriction}
