Shipping Company Groningen adds shipznet

Netherlands-based Shipping Company Groningen has agreed a deal to roll out the shipznet vessel communications systems on part of its fleet of vessels.

{mprestriction ids="1,2"}The 3G mobile broadband communication from German company bobz will be added alongside the satellite system onboard 40 vessels operated by the company. The GSM-based shipznet service offers connectivity near shore when in range of terrestrial signals from multiple countries, without roaming charges.

Shipping Company Groningen was founded in 2017 following a merger between three existing vessel operators, Feederlines, Navigia and Thorco Shipping.

“By using 3G we have an important option for our seafarers to stay in contact with their families and we can provide even more crew welfare,” said Fred Brookman, IT manager at Shipping Company Groningen.{/mprestriction}
