GPS location upgrade for shipznet

Maritime GSM data connectivity company shipznet reports that it has successfully completed tests on an upgrade to its service to provide automated switching between different country providers in the Baltic Sea.

{mprestriction ids="1,2"}The new switching system is based on GPS data, and has been successfully tested in switching between German, Danish and Swedish providers on a TT-Line ferry, the company says, maximising time on the best connection.

The standard 3GPP provider selection procedure – home network first, then last provider, then additional providers – has been replaced by an area-based selection system to improve the connectivity experience for the user.

The shipznet system includes GSM connectivity in a selection of up to 130 countries for a monthly fee, on a range of different data packages.{/mprestriction}
