Carnival hit by hackers

Carnival Corporation has been hit by a ransomware attack that accessed and encrypted a portion of information technology (IT) systems. The unauthorised access included the download of certain data files and access to guests and employees’ personal data, which could lead to potential claims from guests, employees, shareholders, or regulatory agencies.

Carnival Corporation operates various cruise lines including P&O, Cunard, and Princess.

Upon its detection of the security event, Carnival launched an investigation and notified law enforcement, and engaged legal counsel and other incident response professionals.

While the investigation of the incident is ongoing, the shipping company has implemented a series of containment and remediation measures to address this situation and reinforce the security of its IT systems.

Carnival reports that it is working with industry-leading cybersecurity firms to immediately respond to the threat, defend the company’s IT systems, and conduct remediation.

Based on its preliminary assessment and on the information currently known, Carnival does not believe that the incident will have a material impact on its business, operations or financial results.

Carnival has stated that while it believes that no other IT systems of its other brands have been impacted by this incident, there can be no assurance that other IT systems of the other company’s brands will not be adversely affected.
