Híades and Trelleborg bring live pilotage data into Huelva’s port digital picture

Híades and Trelleborg have integrated SafePilot PPU data with the Aurora SmartPort platform at the Port of Huelva, giving port teams live access to vessel manoeuvre data. The move gives ship operators and port stakeholders a shared operational record during pilotage, with implications for how vessel calls are coordinated and reviewed.

Pilotage data has traditionally remained within the systems used by the pilot and vessel crew. The new integration at Huelva changes that arrangement by feeding data from Trelleborg’s SafePilot Portable Piloting Unit directly into Híades’ Aurora SmartPort platform.

The data is transmitted through Trelleborg’s SafeCloud capability and displayed alongside other port information. This gives operations teams a live view of manoeuvres while also creating a second-by-second record that can be reviewed after the vessel call.

That distinction matters to ship managers because pilotage sits within a wider chain of activities that has to work together during a port call. Having manoeuvre data available alongside information from pilotage, towage and mooring can give teams a more complete account of what happened during a vessel’s arrival or departure.

Airam Rodríguez, CEO of Híades, said: “Ports invest in excellent tools for each service — pilotage, towage, mooring — but the data those tools generate often stays in silos. This integration shows what our platform is built for: connecting best-in-class systems like Trelleborg’s SafePilot so that the port, the pilots and the terminals all work from the same live picture.”

Tommy Guldhammer Mikkelsen, Managing Director of the Navigation and Piloting business within Trelleborg Marine & Infrastructure, said: “We are proud to serve as the technology partner behind the pilotage layer of the Aurora SmartPort platform. Through this integration, the data generated by SafePilot during manoeuvres can now be shared more broadly across the port environment, supporting greater visibility and collaboration between pilots and operational teams.”

Huelva is the first live deployment, with Híades planning to deploy the integration at other ports where Aurora SmartPort is in use. The platform already serves port authorities including Valencia, the Balearic Islands port network and Puerto Quetzal in Guatemala.
