"Security Awareness" and "Security Duties" are available online for purchase and study via Marlins’ training site, www.stcwsecurity.com.

The latter expands on what is learnt in the former, providing additional, practical information for crew members who are more likely to face a security threat, such as bridge watchkeepers or gangway staff – or "sea staff with designated duties" as defined by the STCW.

The courses include a full assessment. Upon achieving the requisite pass-mark, a printable certificate is issued with approval from the government of Liberia.

From 1st July 2015, all seafarers will need to demonstrate an understanding of security awareness. Individuals with designated security duties are required to undertake additional training.
