The 2010 Manila amendments to the STCW Convention, which came into effect in 2012, require all crew to undergo security awareness training, while crew members with specific security duties must gain additional certification.

Marlins courses, entitled ‘Security Awareness’ and ‘Security Duties’, allow students to study online. Once the students want to take the final test, they must visit one of the Approved Test Centres in the Marlins network. Genesis Recruitment in Aberdeen (UK) and D&B Services in Antibes (France) will be among the centres where the security tests can be taken.

"We were delighted to hear of the MCA approval of Marlins' security courses, allowing us to certify crew for our clients,” said Louise Stephens, senior consultant at Genesis Recruitment. “We are offering assessments by appointment and will also provide computer space in our offices for candidates to study, if needed."
