{mprestriction ids="1,2"}CAT-3S (Soft Skills for Seafarers) is the first CAT tool to be introduced, and is used to test and evaluate the ‘soft skills’ of crewmembers, including social and other non-technical attributes. Safebridge says that this information can be particularly useful in informing decisions like promotions, when the company is trying to assess if a recruit is ready for the responsibility of a new rank.
Other forthcoming CAT tools will aim to offer a range of further competence assessment options to measure key performance indicators from two perspectives, covering the soft skills and cognitive skills of seafarers.
Companies will be able to assign thousands of tests at once using the system, and can configure their own passing scores, compare the performance of the assessed individuals to industry benchmarks, and developing their own norm base. Individuals can complete assessments on any device.
Safeyacht meanwhile is an online training tool covering navigation systems, available both as a standalone app and a web-based course. The training system is linked with hardware manufacturers’ own servers, including B&G, Simrad and Lowrance, to allow the user to train using a ‘FreePlay’ mode on the original software.{/mprestriction}
