ClassNK to offer DCS support

ClassNK has launched a support service to assist shipping companies in setting up data collection plans in accordance with the DCS (Data Collection System) fuel consumption reporting requirement introduced by the IMO.

{mprestriction ids="1,2"}Amendments to MARPOL Annex VI will see mandatory data collection systems for fuel oil consumption on ships become a mandatory requirement as of 1 March 2018, with the data collection and reporting process (for ships of 5,000 gross tons and above engaged in international voyages) to begin on 1 January 2019.

According to the regulation, a  data collection plan (DCP) outlining reporting procedures is required to be included in a vessel’s Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) as SEEMP Part 2.

The DCP is required for each individual ship and must include a description of data collection methods and management procedures for that vessel. When a ship is being transferred to another owner, a DCP will need to be in place immediately upon delivery once the regulations are in full effect.

To support companies in meeting these requirements, ClassNK’s Consulting Service division says it will be providing standard format documents to shipping companies to create their plans, a service that will be offered alongside its usual SEEMP support activities.{/mprestriction}
