Maersk extends BigOceanData contract

Maersk has agreed a new expanded contract with BigOceanData for the supply of vessel tracking services, extending the companies’ previous agreement by 30 months and increasing the number of vessels covered.

{mprestriction ids="1,2"}The initial two-year contract was agreed in September 2016, and the past 18 months has seen the system implemented to track Maersk Line’s fleet using fused data feeds combining Maersk’s own vessel data received via FleetBroadband with satellite and terrestrial AIS, all backed up by ‘pay-as-you-go’ Inmarsat-C data.

The service provides position reports every 10 minutes, and is now covering up to 2,000 vessels carrying Maersk cargo.

Maersk has also signed up 300 vessels for BigOceanData’s integrated SSAS (Ship Security Alert System) option, which will now be rolled out to the ships over a period of six months.

“We are pleased to be extending our relationship with BigOceanData,” said Stephan Martinussen, head of global vessel performance centre, Maersk Line.

“The system has performed well since its introduction and we continue to explore its integration potential and the cost savings that can be derived from it.”{/mprestriction}
