Oldendorff to roll out shaft data monitoring systems

Oldendorff Carriers is to integrate Shaft Power Meter systems from UK-based Datum Electronics with its existing ship performance monitoring systems across its owned fleet, in line with the shipping company’s eco fleet strategy.

{mprestriction ids="1,2"}More than 90 per cent of the Oldendorff owned fleet is now comprised of environmentally friendly vessels, which are implementing fleet and ship performance monitoring systems aimed at reducing their carbon footprint while also improving operational efficiency.

The addition of shaft power torque meters will form part of this process of optimising fuel consumption and reducing emissions.

The Ship Torsion Meters to be supplied by Datum will provide ongoing power monitoring data to support fuel management and equipment maintenance scheduling programmes, delivering real time measurements of torque, power, thrust and dynamic torque.

“For us, the big advantage of the Datum Torque meter is its modular design. As the rotor belt’s size is adjustable, it can fit on any size of shaft, which gives the system great flexibility,” said Felix Lemke, junior projects manager at Oldendorff Carriers.

“The installations are carried out by very knowledgeable and well-experienced commissioning engineers, which is complemented by an excellent level of pre and after-sales support provided by the broader Datum team.”
