Unafix launches online hub to increase maritime procurement efficiency

Netherlands-based marine tech start-up has launched its efficiency-improving software solution targeting the maritime services industry.

The digital hub aims to simplify the process of finding, comparing and appointing service providers specialised in shipping. 

Unafix’s launch line-up consists of three distinct types of service providers, namely shipping agents, surveyors and lawyers. Users will be able to connect with, and request a quote from as many service providers as they want, increasing the overall efficiency of the procurement process and its outcome.

“We felt that there are massive efficiency benefits to be gained in the procurement process of maritime service providers such as agents, surveyors and lawyers,” said Jeroen Wolthuis, member of the Unafix founding team and spokesperson for the company. “The transition to platform-based procurement in other industries has resulted in substantial efficiency improvements. With Unafix, we’ve tailored this concept to the maritime services industry.”

The maritime industry is often described as a people business and by its nature it is a global business. Maritime professionals usually have large networks which Unafix complements by offering new means of connecting with service providers. Maritime professionals will be able to connect with tens of thousands service providers through thousands of offices worldwide.

Launcing a new business during COVID-19

Holwerda Shipmanagement, a Netherlands based ship manager with a fleet of 10 container vessels, has been actively involved in the development process. “We’re seeing a lot of potential in digital solutions like Unafix. The way they’ve processed our feedback is an example of their user-driven mentality. Due to uncertainty caused by the coronavirus, we’re seeing a reduction in time charter duration. Consequently, we’re having more on/off-hire surveys performed than usual. With Unafix, we quickly obtained an overview of reputable surveyors available and with a few clicks we sent the request for quotation to several providers, without the usual hassle of preparing emails and searching for contact details."

    Running on GTMaritime’s FastNet data transfer platform, GTReplicate provides a reliable and highly configurable automated alternative that reduces the growing administrative burden on fleet IT managers and frees up crew to use their time more constructively.

    GTReplicate is performance optimised for use in a marine environment. This means it operates across a variety of connectivity platforms, including 3G, 4G, L-band and VSAT, maximising throughput in each case. To further conserve bandwidth, GTReplicate monitors files intelligently, only sending on those that have changed since the last replication.

    Acknowledging the range of specialised software used on ships and the diversity of onboard network configurations between fleets, there are no artificially imposed limits on the type or size of file GTReplicate can handle. It also enables automated bi-directional transfer of selected files, folders, or entire folder structures with multiple mechanisms for maintaining total data integrity. Shore-side email can be used as both replication source and target.

    GTReplicate provides shore-based fleet IT managers with a central cloud-based dashboard for configuring and controlling every aspect of how replication takes place, without having to involve crew. Advanced options include ship-specific task creation as well as pre- and post-transfer processing for maximum flexibility.

    With a nod to an increasing need for stringent security auditing, GTReplicate comes complete with a full suite of notification, journaling and reporting functions as standard, ranging from basic timestamping to granular detail on execution status and files moved. Likewise, it features robust and flexible archiving functionalities.

    Papua New Guinea based Consort Express Lines has signed a contract with Norwegian technology company Tero Marine to roll out its complete TM Master suite of applications. 

    The agreement also includes 14 tugs owned by Pacific Towing, both companies being part of Steamships Trading Company, within the Swire Group. Tero Marine will provide the companies with its full range of Fleet Management software applications across, Procurement, Maintenance, Crew Management, Quality and Environment.

    Consort operates geared, multipurpose vessels offering scheduled liner services to the 17 main ports in Papua New Guinea.

I am confident that our TM Master software will help optimise the management and compliance of their fleet.
