Weilbach has launched Weilbach Optimizer, bringing Optimum Voyage’s voyage optimisation technology directly into its navigation platform. The tool analyses vessel performance, weather and ocean data to generate route options aimed at reducing fuel use, limiting heavy-weather exposure and improving ETA reliability.
Weilbach has partnered with Danish maritime technology company Optimum Voyage to integrate voyage optimisation into its navigation software, giving crews access to route analysis within the Weilbach platform.
Called Weilbach Optimizer, the new tool works with routes created in Weilbach Viewer. It combines vessel-specific performance data with high-resolution weather forecasts, currents and other information to assess millions of possible route variations while retaining the navigability and constraints of the original bridge-planned route.
The result is a set of practical route options that can help shipowners and operators manage fuel consumption and weather exposure while maintaining greater confidence in arrival times.
The technology also keeps the bridge team in control. Rather than replacing the crew’s route planning decisions, the system provides alternatives that can be assessed against the vessel’s operating requirements.
Martin Hjorth Simonsen, CEO of Optimum Voyage, said: “With Weilbach Optimizer, crews get practical, navigable route options built on the same engine that optimizes more than 700 vessels every day, and the final decision always remains on the bridge.”
Daniel Friis, CCO, Weilbach A/S, said: “We wanted to bring an advanced optimization technology with proven track record into our offering to our customers and distribution partners. With more than 50+ shipowners already using the technology with great success worldwide we are very excited to bring Weilbach Optimizer to market.”
The integration also gives shipowners a way to bring voyage optimisation into an existing navigation workflow rather than introducing a separate system. Optimum Voyage’s technology is also available through an API, allowing its optimisation engine to be integrated into other platforms.
Weilbach, whose maritime history dates back to 1755, supplies navigation software, charts and publications to the shipping industry. Optimum Voyage was founded in 2016 and provides weather routing and voyage optimisation technology for commercial shipping.
